Colleen McIntosh
Mood Swings - Hide the Knives!!!
Colleen McIntosh punches below the belt with Menopause: The Horror, Humility and Humor of it All. This unapologetic account of her personal journey from menarche through menopause is a balm of comic relief to the pain and puzzlement of life’s changing seasons. As a men’s health specialist, I understand how isolating, painful and scary hormonal and sexual changes can be for men, so I applaud Colleen for sharing her experiences and engaging all of us in a much needed conversation. As a husband who has survived this phenomenon, I found comfort and closure in her revelations, and I highly recommend it to my brethren so they can better understand and support their better halves.
Testimonials
Where was this book 20 years ago? Before experiencing it myself, I learned everything I knew about menopause from TV commercials - and that wasn't a lot. I was left wondering if I was "normal" for most of my 40s and early 50s. I wasn't, but that had nothing to do with menopause. I experienced exactly what Colleen describes her short, self-illustrated, easy read. In my early 40s, this book would have been a welcome roadmap of what was to come. I bought two copies for younger friends so, unlike me, they can be better prepared for the inevitable. Colleen is spot on with her observations and descriptions; she finds humor in an otherwise not so funny course (or curse) of womanhood!
Elise Winchester - Amazon Review
McIntosh’s Menopause is a truly honest instructional guide for surviving and thriving through menopause. This “personal account of my aging carcass” is peppered with hilarious one-liners, from her reference to menopausal hot flashes as the original climate change to her Latin breakdown of the word menopause. It might not make you ache for the day your hot flashes begin, but you certainly won’t feel alone once you get there.
